Pat Barker, BES
A Senior Planner at ParioPlan, Patrick has over 20 years of Alberta-based planning experience in private land development consulting, primarily in the Edmonton Capital Region. He has extensive planning and project management experience in both urban and rural municipalities. Patrick’s professional planning background covers a range of projects that include statutory plans, development concepts, site plans, subdivision plans, zoning and road closures, direct control districts, landscape plans, commercial layouts, industrial park designs and development appeals. HIs strong communication and presentation skills are an asset on projects involving multi-disciplinary teams and requiring consultation with stakeholders and the public. Patrick has a Bachelor of Environmental Studies from the University of Waterloo’s School of Urban and Regional Planning.
Karolina Drabik, BA.A., MPA, RPP, MCIP
Karolina joined ParioPlan as a Senior Planner in early 2013. She brings expertise working with smaller urban and rural municipalities throughout Alberta on policy documents, statutory plans, land use bylaws and revitalization projects including the Alberta Main Street Programme. She understands the development challenges and opportunities that many rural areas face and has extensive experience engaging community stakeholders in all aspects of the planning process. At ParioPlan Karolina conducts research, policy reviews and analysis for a variety of municipal planning projects.
Campbell Mackenzie, BA, RPP, MCIP
Campbell has 12 years of professional experience as a planning consultant, land developer and a legislative advisor to municipal and provincial government. His experience includes the land development industry, both as a planning consultant and land development director in the private sector. He assisted private clients achieve rezoning through outline plans, neighbourhood and area structure plans, and plans of subdivision in greenfield suburban developments, large site industrial developments and urban infill rezonings. He has spearheaded LUB changes in rural municipalities and achieved successful developments in both industrial and residential lands. Campbell’s broad base of experience allows him to play a key role on ParioPlan projects.
Johnathan Vandriel, B.L.A, M.Plan
Planner / Urban Designer
With a Master of Planning degree from Dalhousie University and a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture degree from the University of Guelph, John brings experience in both the planning and design fields. At ParioPlan, John conducts research and policy analysis, and prepares design guidelines, subdivision plans, and rezoning applications for a variety of urban and rural planning and development projects. With a strong background in design, John frequently contributes to design-related projects. He has also co-facilitated several community consultation events and stakeholder workshops for various municipal projects. Prior to joining ParioPlan, John worked for an Ontario-based landscape architect assisting with conceptual designs, site analysis and site inspections for large and small-scale projects. He also worked with a community development organization in Halifax, assisting with grassroots community development initiatives. John’s wide range of experience makes him an asset to the ParioPlan team.
Derek Robinson, BCD
Planner / Urban Designer
A Candidate member of the Canadian Institute of Planners, Derek holds a Bachelor of Community Design from Dalhousie University and a Diploma in Land Use Planning from Langara College. He works on current and long range planning projects for ParioPlan’s urban and rural clients. Prior to joining the firm he gained planning and design experience across Canada and abroad, including roles as a Planner of Strategic Projects at the City of Edmonton and as a Project Officer with Dalhousie University’s Office of Sustainability where he planned and designed active transportation infrastructure. Derek’s strong graphic and urban design skills are complemented by experience in community consultation, project management, stakeholder negotiation, development permits and land development applications.
Mary-Jane Laviolette, BA
Research & Communications Consultant
Mary-Jane joined ParioPlan in 2001, bringing 25 years experience as a researcher and communications coordinator. She conducts research and develops communication materials for many of the firm’s planning projects and studies. She writes communication materials ranging from media releases and project backgrounders to newspaper inserts and articles. Her clear writing style and attention to detail ensure materials are informative and suited to the target audience. A keen and versatile researcher, Mary-Jane also conducts primary and secondary research and analysis for various housing and land-related studies. She has a B.A. in Urban Geography from the University of Alberta, supplemented by writing, editing and communications training from the Faculty of Extension and Editors’ Association of Canada.
Blessy Zachariah, BSc Arch, MUP
Planning Technologist / Planning Assistant
Blessy recently graduated from Montréal’s McGill University with a Master in Urban Planning and a Bachelor of Science in Architecture. As ParioPlan’s newest team member, she brings planning and design experience from school projects at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Blessy gained valuable experience in a number of internships that involved work on graphic and urban design projects, spatial analysis, digitizing projects and extensive community consultation. At ParioPlan, she supports planning projects with research and the production of detailed maps, graphics and conceptual drawings applying her strong technical skills in ESRI ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Google SketchUp, InDesign, Illustrator, MS Publisher and MS Office.
Joan has been ParioPlan's Office Administrator since 2006. She is an experienced, organized and energetic administrative professional with over 20 years experience. Joan oversees many aspects of the business operations including accounts receivable, invoicing, purchasing, records management and office equipment. Her advanced skills in MS Office software lend support to the production of reports, proposals and powerpoint presentations. She also assists project team members with scheduling meetings, travel arrangements, database management, mailouts and general project liaison.
